Dear people,
My name is Marlin van Soest, I am 26 years old and study Illustration in Hamburg.
Since october I am on the road. “On the road” comes from an old german tradition where people leave their home after their education and travel around to work in workshops and with different masters.
I do this as Illustrator.
I work in printing workshops, publishing houses, galleries and with different artists all over Europe. The last three weeks I assisted at a Silkscreenstudio and at the Tekenfestival “The big Draw” in Antwerpen. The Festival is over and I am looking for work again.
Why I write here, is because during my studies I got to know the different technics of printing (etching, woodcut, lithografie and silkscreen) and I would like to keep on working and learning about it. But sadly I have not much contacts to Printers in Holland or Belgium.
Does anybody need some assistance at his work or knows somebody?
It doesn’t have to be only printing or illustrating work. I can help and assist in many ways – the idea is that it is work where I learn something for myself as well.
How long I could work depends on how long my help is needed or a project takes – for me it is allways goof if I can stay for several weeks, so I get a bit into the different workshops and get to know the work and the people. I speak dutch, english and german and like to work with people.
Because I am not from Belgium, for me it is allways the easiestto work for board and lodge (what means I get paid by a place to sleep and food) – but of course it is also possible that I do couchsurfing and get some money to come through the day.
I hope that all doesn’t sound strange to you because you’re not familliar with that old tradition. In the 15th century it was really common and I want to try whether it works still today!
I would be happy if somebody is interested. It would also be possible to meet each other so I could introduce myself personally (if your workshop is not to far away).
Groeten uit Antwerpen,
Marlin
